The point is, that I won't subscribe to a list if it is about a topic
I'm not interested in. If OTOH these discussions happens on a list that
I have for other reasons, I still see some of these messages and
sometimes I can use fragments for my own work.

I understand that this only works up to a certain volume, though and
boost probably reached the critical mass to justify a split into several
lists. Whatever will be decided, I won't have a problem with it :)
