yep, and when I visited google in 2003, somebody mentioned the name
HOB to me and then said "oops, don't repeat that name". So for half of
its life, the name "HOB" was NDA.

so 15 years in, we got past that limit. By then it was far too late.
The design was locked down by that point, with all its mistakes wired
in.

It's 23 years now, and for something we hope to use for the next 23
years, we can do better.

Even device tree would be far better.

I'd rather not take HOB as a given without considering alternatives.
It's a very 1990s design.
