I've had a dual boot, dual-hard drive
system for about a year now and it's
worked without a hitch until recently.

Linux started to lock up at different
stages about a month or so ago.
sometimes when it's first booting,
sometimes after I've logged in under
a user account.

Windows 98, which runs on a separate
harddrive, runs fine.

I've tried reinstalling linux, locked up.
I got redhat 8.0, locked up.
I got a new cable for the harddrive, locked up.
I bought a new harddrive, locked up.

most frustratingly, it usually locks up
AFTER i've gone through disk druid and
set up a bunch of partitions on the new drive.
then at some point, it either freezes up
on its own, or right after I click something.

and after all this, Windows 98 still boots
fine from the other harddrive.

Short of calling Penguin Computing and buying
a new system, does anyone have any cheaper
ideas?

This is turning into an expensive Linux experiment.

I keep wondering if its my motherboard,
but since windows runs, I've been hoping
there's a cheaper solution.

Any diagnostic suggestions?
Greg
