Right, and that's fine for Tim Berners-Lee.

On the other hand, Linus Torvalds is an American resident originally from
Finland, and Richard Stallman, as far as I know, is also American. By my
understanding, this disqualifies them for British knighthood.

On the gripping hand, after reading over the URL from my last message, it
seems like anyone can be granted the various British royal orders, but in
general, non-UKians receive them on an honorary basis, without permission
to use the salutation "sir" or "lady" or to be called a knight.

But anyway, the point of the original message was whether or not Torvalds
and Stallman would ever be granted knighthood, now that Berners-Lee has
it. My hunch is that they're unlikely candidates, for various reasons.
