I like Dovecot, and was easily able to add SMTP-after-POP/IMAP
with it, which let me finally get IMAP up and running on my system.
It also supposrt SSL, which is nice.
Yeah... homegrown perl based LDA shouldn't be too difficult, toughtest
thing is making sure it scales if you need high volume... would
run as a daemon though, so should be pretty cool. Hehe, if you get it
working and realease it that, combined with qpsmtpd, would be one step
closer to an all-perl mail server :)
