 What you're looking for is a "null modem" serial cable. It's analogous
 to an Ethernet crossover cable.

If you're going to do anything with serial ports, get thee a laplink cable and a 25 pin gender changer - ie a male-to-male or female-to-female adapter. Both should be available from any good computer dealer.

VT100s are 25 pin devices. (The alternative would be an 8 pin MMD jack, though those didn't come into play until the VT220 series. DEC never did do the DB-9 connector for its terminals)
