Dan's description of how to tell whether your VT100 was upgraded is correct, but it's not quite true that an upgraded one is at VT102 levels. There are firmware bugs in VT100's which are not fixed by the 'advanced video option' which made them support 132x24 and insert/delete line. Those are fixed in a real VT102. (The response to a query for device ID is also different, but that's getting into the excessively arcane.)
