Perhaps you set a sufficiently high bar that your boots are hard to fill? (hm, can those metaphors be mixed better?) > So my question is this: are there any _good_ perl developers > out there > looking for work, or are people just much more picky about the > environment/money these days? Possibly. The companies with the big bucks are doing a lot of Java, from what I've seen. And people with good Perl skills are also working in niches in these large non-Perl-centric companies. That's not to say that there aren't Perly people out there, of course, but most of the ones I know are not necessarily entirely in the Perl world. It's an incredibly useful tool for many tasks, but the larger the company, I'd say the less likely they are to have large projects written using Perl. > I'd hate to lose my elegant web > application (CGI::Application, CDBI, TT/H::T) to a windows solution, There's certainly a lot of pressure towards Java, at least from what I've seen. But it depends on the application, I just don't seem to deal much with Windows-oriented companies. (heh, I say that, and then I realize we're moving one of our mainstay products off of Windows to Java/Unix... so I guess the people that bought our office used to be mostly Windows-based) We're also decommissioning a large (admittedly poorly-conceived) set of products off of Perl, also to Java. _______________________________________________ Boston-pm mailing list [email protected] http://mail.pm.org/mailman/listinfo/boston-pm
