22 people came to Tuesday's tech meeting, our first meeting sponsored by
Cambridge Interactive Development Corp.

Sean Quinlan began the meeting by telling us about what CIDC does
(ecommerce and online entertainment) and the Perl developer positions
they're looking to fill. He also answered questions and handed out some
goodies.

I did an intro to Template::Toolkit, presenting the features I'd found most
useful in the month I've been using the module. Dan Boger helped to fill
in where there were gaps in my knowledge.

Uri Guttman gave an informal presentation on his modules Template::Simple
and CMS::Simple, and showed us a site built using the modules.

This spurred a discussion on the benefits and drawbacks of putting logic in
the templates - Template::Toolkit allows a lot of logic in the templates;
Template::Simple requires all the logic to be in the code. (Kenneth Graves
commented, "There are a million places to put the dividing line, and
they're all wrong.")

I concluded the meeting with a very quick look at LOLCode, a silly
programming language based on the currently popular LOL cat images
(e.g. "IM IN UR BASE, KILLIN UR DOODZ", "INVISIBLE BIKE", etc.) Two Perl
interpreters for the language have been written so far.

Thanks to CIDC for sponsoring the meeting! They'll be sponsoring our tech
meetings for the next few months at least, and probably longer. And thanks
to everyone who attended!

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 10. Let me know if you would
like to give a presentation.
