27 people came to Tuesday's tech meeting.
Mitchell Charity gave a brief presentation on his idea to quickly bootstrap a Perl 6 implementation via Ruby - see his recent post to the list for more details. I gave an informal presentation on some of the new features in Perl 5.10, particularly smart matching with the ~~ operator, given (the new switch statement), and named captures in regular expressions. I made heavy use of Bill Ricker's advent calendar entry, Gabor Szabo's micro-articles, and the new manpages, particularly perldelta. <http://perladvent.pm.org/2007/19/> <http://use.perl.org/articles/07/12/26/1628211.shtml> <http://perldoc.perl.org/perldelta.html> (If anyone has figured out what /regex/ ~~ /regex/ does, let us know!) Finally, Bernardo Rechea showed us the CD ripping program he has written that advantage of some of the new features to parse info for classical music CDs. Refreshments at this meeting were sponsored by CIDC. Thanks CIDC! They're still looking to hire Perl developers - tell them you found them through Boston Perl Mongers. http://www.cidc.com/ Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 12. Let's figure out the topic! Ronald _______________________________________________ Boston-pm mailing list [email protected] http://mail.pm.org/mailman/listinfo/boston-pm
