i hate that attitude 'are you still using perl?'. perl seems to be more
in demand now than i have ever seen. the perl jobs list gets over 100
posts a month and has done so for a long time now. i see jobs all over
the world and for higher pay too. i have trouble finding people for the
leads i have. almost every perl hacker i know seems to be working. perl
just never had or will have the buzz that commercial langs like java
do. since java is taught in schools and perl generally isn't you get
tons of java kiddies in the workplace. one shop (fidelity) said they
hire java kids BECAUSE they are a dime a dozen and easy to find. the
fact that 1/3 of them are morons doesn't matter. hiring perl hackers is
much harder as a dumb perl hacker is worse than a dumb java kid and
there are fewer perl hackers in general. but perl is used everywhere in
almost every shop. sometimes you have to look for it but it is there.

ARRRRGGGG!!!!
