I just noticed a pretty inexpensive way to take a good online "zero to Perl" sort of course. If you have a safari.oreilly.com subscription, you can go here now and play it <http://my.safaribooksonline.com/9780137013142>! It teaches how to write "procedural" (non OO) Perl code and teaches the idioms that you will find that good programmers typically use. It introduces CPAN in the last lesson but does not teach OO Perl or how to write modules. I just went through all of the lessons here as review. It was quite good (in my opinion). The instructor (Peter Scott) has written two Perl books (one on fixing legacy code and the other on debugging) so he knows what he is talking about.
