These are issues caused by the BrailleNote's use of the Duxbury Braille
translator rules. Not much to be done about it.

Subject: [Braillenote] braille translation question

I wondered why symbols like tilde, backslash, and I think greater than,
are spelled out. I noticed that about the bookshare translator also and
don't know why it wouldn't just put in the symbols.
