I'm not sure why you are having problems with the MSWord format. It is definitely not a universal problem with the unit itself. I only use MSWord format and have the BN set to alwasy save files as that format and I save them on an sd card that I take to the PC all the time and open the MSWord files flawlessly every time.
I'm still new to the BN so I don't have specific directions for you but you may want to check your email settings and how it handles attachements.
