Hi, In order to use the BrailleNote as a Braille display for other computers, you need something to drive it such as a screen reader. Drivers can be written for all screen readers, but JAWS for Windows, Window-Eyes and Hal all have support built into it. Because the Hal support is directed through the SAM (Synthesizer Access Manager) protocol developed by dolphin, any SAM-Enabled product could, theoreticly, use the BrailleNote as a Braille display.
As for the type of computer, the only specification that I know of is the computer must have a COM port. COM ports usually use the RS232 specification, commonly known as a serial port. Anyone, correct if any of this is incorrect. --- Matthew F. My name is Jess Fox and I have written to this list before in regards to my BrailleNote. I wanted to know if any one is using the BrailleNote's Braille display for their laptop? How did you configure the BrailleNote to act as a Braille display for the laptop? Is there a specific kind of Laptop that works best with the BrailleNote? ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
