They are, but you can disable the b portion if you want, but in this case I
am not sure you would even see the option to connect to it.

That shouldn't matter. My router is a wireless G and I can access it 
without any problems.
Now, if these G routers are not backwards compatible, I suppose that could 
be a problem, but I haven't heard of such a router.
