Thank you, Don, I'm glad I wasn't hallucinating about not having to be
connected to the network in order to see the network prompts. [LOL]
I'll keep all these suggestions handy in case I need them in the future.

Hi Sam,

I have seen instances where the network drive shows up on the list of drives,
but the network connection is not active.

After you have connected to the network, try something like accessing a site on
the internet. If you can do this, you know for sure that you are connected.

One other thing. You said your computer name is sam. When you installed
windows, probably xp?, you also set up an administrative account which you log
into every time you start windows, either manually or automatically.

If your logon name just happens to also be sam, this could be your problem.

I had a similar "cannot find resource" message and eventually discovered that
my computer name was don and also my windows logon name was don.

I changed my computer name to something else and my connection immediately
worked. I had the same problem with my wife's machine and it was solved
the same way.

Of course, if the two names are different than this is irrelevant.

Finally, if you are sure of your computer name, you might try a 4 5 6 (j k l)
reset and then attempt to connect again. I've found that it's sometimes
necessary
to do this reset if you have tried to connect several times and gotten repeated
errors.

This may be of no help at all, but hopefully you can get it to work and these
ideas will be of some value.

Don
