Dear Lisa and List,
What I am about to say is true for the BrailleNote or any braille
translation software you might use on your PC.
It's not possible to translate a grade 2 braille document into grade 1. In
order to have a document translate into grade 1 braille, you must first
translate it into text. Open the text document and add the necessary codes.
I know the QT commands for doing this, but not the BT so I will explain in
general terms how to do this. You must be at the top of your text document.
Go to the "braille settings menu QT users press read control b. You must
select "grade to use when translating into braille. QT users press b. Type
1 for grade 1 braille. You should see the grade 1 code on your display.
Now, go to the end of your document and use the same steps except type 2
instead of 1. Now, your document has both of the codes and you can
translate the text document into braille and it will appear as grade 1
braille.
The place to look in the manual for this information is "formatting a text
document for embossing."

Hi Everyone,
Okay I finally got a chance to try and translate one of my books I
downloaded from Web Braille to read it in Grade 1. I went to the file
manager menu to the translation menu. I chose the translate between
Braille and text option. The file is in Grade 1 now kind of. The
punctuation marks for example the periods still show up as being in
computer Braille. How do I get this file to look as much as possible to
read correctly in Grade 1? I'm just experimenting with this file. I was
hoping to download children's books for my student to read on the BN to
help her become familiar using the BN.
