I am thinking the same thing, John but there is a lot more going on in this little machine, I think. I think a chip or circuit has gone out because when I power the whole thing down the way they tell you to do when you want to store it, it starts saying ac adapter off battery is critical, so something reverse is happening here. What is so uncanny about this is that I had just gotten off the phone from talking to Humanware about the other Braille Note and breazily said "Oh Karen, take your time with my Braille Note, I have a perfectly good pk here!" As my friend, Judy Lass says, "Don't yell so loud, it might hear you!" and it sure did.
Well I'm off to make that call to tech support.
I will simply wait until the other machine comes back to send it.

Subject: [Braillenote] the pk

Hi Mary ellen,
wonder if you could try another adapter as this would solve the problem to what it could be that's gone wrong. This is what I did but I had to send my pk back. I think they think the main chip has gone down. it's a good job it's under warranted but this is my point about the whole pk problem. you have no battery backup and if the machine locks up we have no flash card with the software on it to try and get it going again. I know humanware are doing magic things with the mpower and the like but with none mainstream stuff it takes time to get these things sorted out. the technology is so new that it moves so fast maybe too fast but when you get a lockup you are really stuck. Humanware uk have been grate with me as I have borrowed a pk from them otherwise I would be stuck in my work without it but I really feel for you as you rely on it so much the annoying thing is it always seems to go wrong on Thursday or Friday which makes things even more frustrating. I really wonder when the next upgrade should be out it might solve some things like the how much power is left as when my pk is fully charged it says 66 per cent.
hope you get it sorted.
