Dean, can we press space bar to get calibration while the BN is
talking itself flat, or is it only while it's discharging and recharging?

Last thing first, it is true that you cannot use the BrailleNote mPower
while the gauge is being calibrated and the battery is being cycled as part
of the process.
When calibration is complete, you will get a message displayed accordingly.
The noise I believe you were thinking of, is when you turn the BrailleNote
mPower off and there is a humming type noise from the Braille display.
