A dial up modem connection is still useful in many situations, especially
when traveling, or perhaps visiting friends or family where there are phone
jacks, but no broadband access, or if you want to avoid high broadband
charges at some hotels.

Like you, I'm glad that they have left the modem in the new units.  It'll be
a while before I can get one, but I still use dial up and like it.
