Hi Pam, I don't know why some ac adaptors consist of two parts, but for the record, one part of my adaptor consists of a small box with two rectangular prongs on one end, and the plug which connects to the Voicenote on the other. The other part of the adaptor consists of the part which plugs into the power outlet, with a rectangular connector at the other end. The rectangular connector plugs into the two rectangular prongs. Hope this makes sense. David
