OK I just connected my husband's Braillenote to our wireless network first
try. Here's how it goes...
1. You need to have your network up an running on your main computer -
where you managed all its connections and security settings. Be sure you
have the security key because you'll need it when you set up the
braillenote. You'll also have given the network a name when you set it up.
2. I'll give menu commands cuz I don't know the braille keystrokes...if you
want the qwerty ones just ask. Go to the Connectivity menu and select
CREATE A NEW DIAL-UP or LAN CONNECTION and press enter.
This will take you to Entry List for Connection Configuration.
Arrow Down once to Connection Configuration Name and type in the name you
want to call this connection. I call mine wireless. Then press ENTER
Next you will hear DEVICE TO USE. You need to select the device so check
your help key for how to do that. On the VT it's CTRL-space so I'd guess
it's backspace-space, but I don't know. You'll hear various options like
internal modem, infrared port, Haze Compatible Modem on Com 1 and eventually
you'll come to WIRELESS ETHERNET CONNECTION. At that option press ENTER
You next hear SSID and this is where you type the name you gave your network
when you set it up on your PC with your router.and then press enter.
The next item in the list is USE Infrastructure mode - currently yes. So
just press ENTER
Then it will prompt Use Shared authentication - currently no So again press
ENTER
USE WEP - currently NO. Type Y for yes then press enter.
It then asks for your WEB KEY which is the security number you generated
back on your pc when you were setting up the router. Type in that key being
careful to be accurate about case. Press enter.
You now here 802.1X authentication currently zero. Press ENTER
Next it asks Obtain an IP address automaticly - currently yes. This is
correct so press ENTER
Then it asks Use a Proxy Server for this connection - currently NO. This is
right so hit ENTER
And that's the end of the list, so hit escape or exit and you'll be asked
ADD THIS RECORD, so press Y for yes. and you're back in the connectivity
menu. That's the connection for your wireless card.
Now go to KeyMail and select S to go to keymail setup menu and arrow down
once to Directory of Email Accounts. Press ENTER and down arrow once to Add
AN ACCOUNT.
You'll hear Entry List for Email Accounts. Hit ENTER and you'll be prompted
for Account Name. Give it a name and press ENTER
The next prompt is USER NAME. Here type your user name for your email
account. That is the part of your email address before the @ sign. Then
press ENTER
Next you are prompted PASSWORD so type your email account password and press
ENTER
The next prompt is YOUR NAME. Here type your whole name that you go by -
first and last. or probably anything else you want to be called will work,
too. Then press ENTER
Next YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS so here type your entire email address then press
ENTER
The next prompt is POP SERVER. You'll need to ask your ISP if you don't know
this. it is often mail. and then the part of your email address that follows
the @ sign, so if you don't know, try this. So mine is mail.wavecable.com.
When you've entered that information press ENTER
Your SMTP server is the next prompt. Again askyour ISP. This is often the
same as the POP server so you can try that if you want. Then press enter.
You are next asked if SMTP Authentication is required - currently NO. This
will probably stay no, so just press ENTER (when you're talking to your ISP
about the other info you needed above you can ask for sure.)
That's the end of the list, so Exit or ESC out to hear ADD THIS RECORD to
which you respond Y for yes.
Now you're ready to go get your mail.
Back out to the keymail menu and type R for Read. You'll be asked Read from
which folder. Arrow down to INBOX if it is not offered as your default then
press ENTER.
You'll hear Check for email, so respond Y for yes.
Connect using which configuration is asked next. So arrow down to the name
of your wireless connection and press enter.
You are then asked Use which email account. Arrow down to the email account
you just created and press ENTER
You'll then hear a BEEP and WIRELESS IS NOT ACTIVE. WIRELESS ETHERNET ON? -
Currently NO So here you will respond Y to connect your wireless ethernet
and it should then go get your email.
If it doesn't work...
Check with your ISP to be sure you have set up your email account properly
with your correct information in this section.
Then check with your router support people to be sure you've got it set up
correctly for a wireless connection. They are really good at helping with
such connections as they've done it before.
I hope this helps.
