My name is Jess Fox and I am writing in regards to an opinion that you
have about the use of the BrailleNote list serve. I would like to
share my opinion on the topic. Firstly, I have a question that is
connected to your question of sending our questions to people who are
not on the BrailleNote list. The question that I have is: Who are
these individuals that you are referring to? Secondly, I would like
to ask you another question about your opinion. The question is: Why
isn't it cool to be wading "through five, ten even twenty messages of
the same question be replied to contiguously?" In my opinion, this is
a good thing because the more ideas, suggestions, or tips that you
have can assist you in finding the right answer for your specific
case. I would like to ask you to keep one important factor in mind
and this factor is that the BrailleNote can do strange things that are
abnormal. For instance, you are trying to delete a folder off your
BrailleNote and you are a new user of the BrailleNote. The manual
gives you the keyboard commands and you follow them. However, you get
an error message that says that no folders can be erased. You hear
about the BrailleNote list and you decide to send the list an email
that states your problem as well as asking any one if they have any
other suggestions for you. You log online the next day and you see
that you have several responses to your post about deleting folders.
You read them all and you figure out your problem. You were able to
solve your problem because you had several suggestions and not just
one. But, lets say that you only got one response to your email that
you sent to an individual off the list serve and there suggestion did
not solve your problem. You would be stuck with an issue that you can
not solve the problem. A person might claim to know everything about
the BrailleNote and you might believe them because you have heard that
they might have helped other individuals with complicated problems.
The truth is that no one knows everything about computers because they
are always changing. In my opinion, this is why it is good to have
several replies to your questions because you can get different
suggestions from different individuals. Thirdly, I would like to
respond to your thoughts on the discussion over the BrailleNote and
how it compares to other PDA's as well as Humanware wanting to
continue this list if we abuse it. I would like to inform you of
something that you might not have realized before about this
BrailleNote list serve. The thing that I would like you to realize is
that: Humanware has it's technical support staff use this list serve
to respond to questions about the BrailleNote. In my opinion, the
technical support staff are the people who give the BrailleNote
software designers new ideas for there software and the technical
support staff get these suggestions from monitoring the list serve.
They watch for common complaints that people have and the technical
support staff give these complaints to the software designers. In my
opinion, I think that "The palaver back and forth about whether or not
the Braillenote should be like a
laptop or not like a laptop or whether or not it should be able to do
certain things, should not be discussed over and over on the list" is
a grate thing because it gives Humanware suggestions on how they can
create a BrailleNote that can meet the standards that are being set by
their customers and I think that it is a win win situation with this
topic. I think this way because we get what we want in a BrailleNote
when they listen to our suggestions and Humanware sets a new standard
for other assistive technology companies to meet.
