Does anyone know if there is a way to use block markers in Microsoft Word. That's one thing I absolutely love about the BN and wish were on the computer.

Thanks,

Well, my steps of computing went like this: (1) Pc using WP 5.1 and DOS.
(2) Keysoft and the Keynote Companion. (3) the BN family. (4) Windows XP.

Keysoft came naturally to me, like braille did. Why? Because everything
was explained in a way I could understand. Both DOS and Windows were hard
for me to learn. If it weren't for WindowEyes, I don't think I could have
mastered Windows.

Like I said before: Keysoft gets down to brass tacks. I don't want to see stuff about dialog boxes and list items. I hate editing in Windows because
it's so much harder to manipulate text without fouling up something. I'm
less likely to mess up using Keysoft than Windows.

I believe it's a good idea to have a PC as well as a BN in case one or the
other is in the shop. And if neither my Windows PC nor the BN work, I still have the good old DOS PC and the still-working Keynote Companion. (Yes, the
KNC still works, but I must plug it in because the battery pack is dead.)

I don't work, so I can choose to learn as much or as little as I want to of Windows programs. Some things, like word processing, are easier on the BN. Other programs, like the ONLINE BIBLE, can only be accessed with the PC. I
use both the BN and PC, whichever is the best to use to get the task done.

: But you know what? you are dealing with the exact same things under
: different names. Creating files is a dialog of a sort. any set up
process
: is a dialog, such as setting up email. It's much simplified in key soft,
: but it's really the same kind of thing. It was actually realizing that,
and
: looking for the actual similarities with windows, that helped me feel more : comfortable using key soft in the beginning. I guess it all comes down to
: what you're used to, what you've used most or had a lot of success with.
: The BN was always so much harder, because i used a PC all day at work and
: then all my free time at home. I remember how proud of myself I felt,
when
: I was on an extended vacation and sat down and read the manual over and
: over, and step by step figured out the key mail system. I still think
: outlook is easier, but then I use outlook a good 18 hours a day, so
: naturally I would. however, I don't feel so lost in key soft anymore
: because I've worked on learning it.

: Dear Mary,
:
: The advantage of Keysoft over Windows is this: you can perform tasks
without
:
: having to deal with edit boxes, dialog boxes, list views, a mouse, and all
: of the other gobbledegook you see on a Windows screen.
:
: I first used Keysoft in the DOS days, and I loved it even then. I could
: learn exactly what I needed to know without going through hoops.
:
: You can also write in any grade of braille you want to because a condensed
: version of Duxbury is a part of the system.
:
: The disadvantage of Keysoft is you must export all documents and all other
: data you want to a format your PC will recognize.
:
: In the DOS days, there used to be a version of Keysoft for the PC. I
think
: HumanWare should create a version of Keysoft for the PC so we could take
: advantage of the best of both worlds.

: Subject: [Braillenote] keysoft or windows

:: Hi folks,
:: There has been a thread under the topic of suggestions for keysoft. Some : people have expressed a desire that the interface look more like windows,
: while others are seriously opposed to such changes. I have never
:: owned a braille note, although I'd like to get a voice note and gps. I
: understand that back when the note family was introduced, not many blind
: people were familiar with Windows. Most of us dos users did not go
:: quietly into the Windows world, and the learning curve was steep for ost, : myself definitely among them. Its been said that the keysoft interface is
: intuitive flr blind people. My sense is that peoples' reactions to this
:: whole notion of changing the interface has to do with what we are
familiar
:
: with and what is intuitive for us because of familiarity. It strikes me
that
:
: not being able to open files from the file manager is certainly not
:: intuitive. Would those of you who don't want the Windows interface agree?
: As a non-user of the Note family of products, and as one who is fairly
: familiar with Windows, I admit that I find the idea of learning a
:: nonstandard proprietary interface, which I won't be able to use anywhere : else somewhat off putting. and please, nobody suggest that people who want
: windows should buy the compeditive products, which may have
:: other serious shortcomings. For those of you who like the present
: interface, what would you say are advantages over Windows? Lack of
: multitasking is a disadvantage, as is not being able to open files from
: within the
:: manager. Context sensitive help is good, but its not interface dependent.
: You can have that sort of help regardless of interface. So, what's good
: about the keysoft interface that you don't feel is present or is not
:: efficient in a more Windows-like interface?
:: Mary.
