No, but they'll sound a lot better if they are!

If you plug speakers in to a braille note do the speakers have to be
battery
powered?

I know, but the cord is rather short, so I wondered if the speakers
would
add to the antenna, thus providing better reception, or would the
shortness
of the cord result in a poorer signal?

I think it would, remember that what is acting as the antenna is the
cord.

I just wondered something, as scary as that might be. <Grin> Would it
work as well to plug in a portable speaker or pair of speakers into the
BN for the purposes of listening to the radio? I have this wonderful
little pair of speakers, the JBL On Tour, that I would just love to use
with the mPower. I'll just have to wait and see.

You probably would since the headphones act as an antenna and the
speaker
is bypassed so you would need to listen through headphones unless the
signal you are listening to is very strong. That's a guess since I
don't
know how good the radio is going to be.
