Dear Kc,
I think it may be due to my phone line. I know that using either the MP or
the PC, my speed is much slower than my modem should get.
But there must be a difference between using the full version of Windows
Explorer and using Keyweb.

difference between ISP's, or maybe itis location?

If I spend a lot of time reading a web page with the MP, I'm more likely
to
get cut off than if I find things quickly. As long as I keep accessing
links showing my ISP I'm doing something, I'm fine. But if I'm reading a
long article and I haven't accessed links for say 10 or 20 minutes, I can
get cut off.
I can't afford DSL.

At the moment, I don't have any dial up capability so can't check it
out.
I remain connected just fine with my SanDisk Wy Fi card and the book
usually downloads very quickly!

Dear Jim,
I downloaded a book with the BNMP and it is very nice and easy to do.
However, my connections speed is slow and the ISP cuts me off when I use
the MP but it almost never cuts me off when I'm using my PC.
I like having a copy of the book in my PC in case the book has a
"glitch"
which I can fix using my PC.

Why bother when you can do the entire process with your BN? Perhaps
putting them on a PC helps as far as storage goes but when you download
the NLS book or books with your BN, you can actually have it go right
to
your storage card and save a few steps in the operation. I usually log
in with my user name and password I was given by my state library. I
immediately go to the bottom of the page and find list of braille books
and press enter. One then is presented with the alphabet in links.
Press the letter you want, do a find command for the author you are
looking for and you will have your list of books by that author which
are
available through the NLS electronic library. When you see Volume one,
press enter and you will be on line with that volume. Do a save
command,
follow the prompts and place this volume where you want it, flash disk,
compact flash etc. Give it a file name followed by one to represent
the
volume dot brf and you should be good to go. Exit out of the book and
get that link up again where it says the book number or volume one.
Place your cursor on the period after the one and press backspace.
This
takes out one and type two. you will be placed in the link for the
next
volume. Keep up this procedure till you have the entire book
downloaded.
It is really slick!

Really? Thank you so much, i will definitely check this out. It really
isn't
much of a prblem to go in and fix the extention manually, bu it will
definitely save a bit of time not having to go in and do that.
Thansk again,

If you go to the FAQ section on the web braille site, there are step
by
step
directions on how to get your computer to recognize .brf files. you
have to
set it up, but the directions are easy to follow.

Taht's weird. My cmoputer has never recognized BRF. Maybe I should
consider
installing Duxbury so it automatically does.

The PC shouldn't tack on a .txt. At the filename prompt, you can
press
enter or you can type a drive and foldername and filen.brf.
You can use the file and folder options in the control panel setup
menu
and Windows will recognize the .brf extension as an application file
extension. If you have DBT Win (Duxbury for Windows) on your PC,

tell Windows to always open a .brf file using Duxbury. You can

books directly to a CompactFlash card.

Hi All,
I sent this to just Estin, but I'll just post it here in case
anyoen
else needs it.
Cheers,
Caitlin
Hi Estin,
Here's how to work web-braille. Go to
www.loc.gov/nls
Click on Browse the Catalog.
Enter your search terms, such as title, author, etc. To find things
faster,
select "braille" in the "type" combo box, or whatever it's called.
When you find what you want, you'll see link beginning in http
for >> each
volume. Hit context menu on this link, then arrow down to save
as. >> You'll
be
asked to enter your NLS username and apssword, so do that. Then
save-as
as
you normally would. If your ocmputer tacks on a .txt after the .brf
extention, go to the file using Windows Explorer and hit F2, and
erase
the
.txt part, and jsut that, not the .brf. Hope this makes sense. If
you
ahve
any questions, feel free to email me back and I'll do my best to
help.

Hi everyone:
