Hi Evelyn, Yes, you are supposed to charge the unit fully before using it. I used mine right out of the box, (after waiting until it reached room temperature), but I plugged it in first, and I found out later that I was instructed to charge up first before using. My Power had no ill effects from the immediate use, but I would suggest following any Braille instructions HW sent in the package. Lastly, no calibration should be necessary for quite some time. I've had my mPower for around three months, haven't recalibrated, and have had nothing but excellent behavior from its battery.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to come back with more questions. Hi, All, I received my M Power todat--just a feew minutes ago! When I talked with Kim late last week, she said that it would likely be shipped early this week. They sent it second-day air. Since my back-up Braille Lite 40 decided to go down over the weekend, I am doubly ecstatic that it has rrrived. My old unit apparently needs a battery. Now I have questions: Once I open the package, should I charge it fully before attempting to use it? Does it need battery recalibration before I start to use it? I will not do anything with it until it reaches room temperature.
