I admire anyone who is willing to save and find ways to get the
technology they need and want. I am amazed that many people who don't
seem to have to work also have quite a bit of technology. Now, those
are the folks I'm jealous of! (smile)

Well, I paid for both my Braille notes and am paying for both the
transplants. I work full time as a medical transcriptionist and have
paid
for all the equipment I use at work except the actual computer.

I have done anything from a simple credit union loan to using a credit
card
to finally getting a home equity loan to do some work on the house and
making sure I had extra for what I needed. I am not and have not been
dealing with rehab in my state since 1978.

So, if I have it I have worked for it.

Hi rose;
glad you got your unit back. Sorry if I was a little strong yesterday.
I
find you to be a very lucky person. I was talking to a good friend, in
the
office, about paying for the transplant. she said couldn't they pay for
that for you? I said, the CAP program bought the unit and embosser for
me.
With my home equity loan, I feal honored to be able to do something for
myself finally.
I started out as a rental and now I have a condo.
I started out working for 2 summers and volenteering for the winter and
then
got highered. I started out as a GS3.3 and now am a 5.8. I have slowly
climbed up the ladder and have worker for 20 years.
I am proving to the world that a multi handicapped person can still
function
in the world.

Well, they did require a signature, and did not get here until after
five in
the evening which meant I spent the whole day waiting, and canceled one
appointment.

However, I have it now, and spent yesterday afternoon establishing my
wireless connection to the internet, getting the e-mail up and
functioning
and the like.

It is faster than the classic. However, I believe that for the most
part I
still prefer my computer for e-mail. The ability to filter messages
into
their respective folders automatically upon receipt is just one reason.

Anyone else notice the keyboard is stiffer and noisier? I have the BT
model. I cannot seem to braille as fast but then that may be because I
type
so much and braille so little. However, I did not go for the QWERTY
option
because I don't like the idea of a smaller keyboard with smaller keys,
we
had that at work for a while and I had a lot of trouble with my hands
using
that keyboard.

I used to have a friendly UPS person who always did the deliveries to
our
house. He was great because he took personal interest in doing a good
job
of delivering things, like making sure not to leave stuff at the front
door
possibly in a puddle. :-) The new driver just dumps whatever wherever
without even trying to knock or ring the door bell. I sometimes find
things outside in strange places delivered who knows when.

My MPower arrived the Friday after Thanks Giving in a snow storm, and we

were not home. Fortunately it was in a huge plastic bag as well as all
the
box and phome packing material so it was just fine. It still freeks me
out
to have such expensive stuff just dumped, especially on a long weekend.
I
think all delivery companies are trying to save money by not asking for
signatures for almost anything. I actually would like to know, just for
my
curiocity, if Humanware shipped the MPower without requesting the type
of
delivery that would require a signature, or if the delivery person just
took the risk of leaving it.

Well UPS tried to deliver my transplanted 18-cell BN today,. I shipped
it
Fed-Ex because the Fed-Ex office is about half a mile from my house or
less
and because it is on my way home. Normally when I have packages from
them
and am not home (I work ten-hour days) I can call them and have them
hold
the package and pick it up the next evening.

We had to go into tracking and ask that the package be delivered on
Friday,
January 13, which is the first time we will be home during the work
week,
but that is not always the case, sometimes we actually do work 50 hours
a
week.

So, I have to wait and wait! Sure wish they shipped the same way they
received, they have my card number so it should not have been a problem.
I
dislike UPS, they have no regard for schedules, are not easy to get to,
and
this means that more than likely I will spend all day Friday waiting
and
they will deliver at five in the evening even if they tried to deliver
at
9:30 this morning. .

In 2003 UPS left my new BN 32 cell on the porch all day, then three
weeks
later wanted a signature for the upgraded 18-cell, said they would be
back
on Friday but came on Thursday and left a note that they would ship it
back,
now talk about a hassle to get that resolved! I really have little that
I
can say is good about UPS.

So, maybe Friday I will be half-way empowered, and next week will have
to
see about shipping the 32 cell for its empowerment, provided the 18-cell
works when it gets home!
