The best set of portable speakers I've ever seen are called the JBL On Tour speakers. You have one rather small unit that runs on triple A batteries. The sound is incredible, with bass and treble. They will cost you, and I wouldn't recommend them to someone who just wants speakers. But, you can probably find them for around $70. If, you decide to spend the extra money, you will never regret it.
