I just had that same problem this morning for the first time probably because I
have never let it drop that low beofre. It went from 37% to 8% in a moment.
That 8% figure looks a little suspicious. I have version 7 of the software.

I had that problem of battery level being reported at 30 percent and then
almost immediately dropping to 8 a few times, but it has completely gone away.
I get a reasonable curve on battery level reporting, and unless I have a
wireless card in I don't need to hurry when it reports battery is low. In fact
I think it could start telling me that a little later and I would be a bit
happier.
I didn't recalibrate my battery at any time. I do almost always let it get
very very low before charging, though. I usually wait until it is driving me
crazy with battery is critical and at 1 percent. I also let it charge for a
little while after it has reached 100 percent. Of course, every once in a
while, I must have my BrailleNote charged completely for the next day and can't
wait until it is fully discharged, but I really try not to let that be
necessary very often. It isn't supposed to matter that much with modern
devices and batteries, but I hear a lot of complaint about all kinds of
batteries and I am pretty much never doing any of that complaining, so I have
decided not to relax my standards if they are working for me. <smile>
I'm not implying that people with battery problems caused them, though, because
it usually doesn't seem like that is the case with the battery problems people
have discribed on this list. My MPower certainly seemed confused at first, too.
