Ms. Tay:

I have used the exact same BN model for a few weeks. I have found that Lexmark thumb drives and BN don't get along at all, but every CF or SD card I have tried works. (Mostly Sandisk, but also a few other brands which I don't know because I never asked; I put the card in, it worked, I was happy).

As far as upgrading, the file is a .bin file, not a .exe file. This means that, unless I have missed completely, the upgrade file must be on an SD card (after running the "prepare SD card" utility) for it to work. I wish there was a way around this, too, because if there is a free patch or something, I don't want to get a FREE upgrade only to have to buy an SD card.

As far as MS Word goes, I had that problem on my classic. I noticed no pattern in what it would and wouldn't open, but my MPower seems to have taken care of that. Graphics are, obviously, not supported in MSW files and could be causing the problem. In a message to the list a while ago, a member of HW said that KS 7 fixed the bug that you are now describing. See if the files giving you trouble now still do after you have KS 7 running.

Hope that helps, and have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] Thumb Drive; Word Documents; Installing
KeySoft 7

Dear All,

I am a new user of BrailleNote mPower BT 32. I am
currently facing some problems in using the product.
I wish to seek your advice in the following:

1. I have tried using a 512-MB thumb drive and a
512-MB compact flash card on my BrailleNote but my
BrailleNote cannot recognise any of them (i.e. neither
of them appears in the drive list). However, my
BrailleNote works perfectly with my other 64-MB thumb
drive. Are there any compatibility issues with
regards to using thumb drives, compact flash cards and
SD cards on the BrailleNote? If so, which models and
sizes would you recommend?

2. When I try to open certain Microsoft Word
documents on my BrailleNote, it launches the Wordpad
Converter dialog displaying the following message,
"The file converter found that the input file is not a
valid Word 6.0/95/97 document," regardless of whether
I press dots 1, 3, 4, 5 or dots 1, 3, 4, 5, 6. This
is followed by a series of beeping sounds which I
cannot stop unless I press the Reset button. Are
there any types of Microsoft Word documents that I
cannot open on the BrailleNote and how do I resolve
this problem?

3. I wish to update my BrailleNote to KeySoft 7 but I
have not received the software and I do not have a new
SD card. Besides using an SD card as instructed by
the KeySoft download page, are there any other ways by
which I can download and install KeySoft 7 on my
BrailleNote?

Any advice given is most appreciated. Many thanks in
advanced.

Warmest Regards
Choon Rui
