Thanks for this. I had given up on the damn thing but I am now tempted to give it another try. I am glad I did not stamp it to pieces now but watch this space.
Graham >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 03/12/06 08:21pm >>> Hi All, Well, I finally did break down and get the Belkin Bluetooth adapter. So, I've been fighting for over the last week to get things set up. I wanted to try to use ActiveSync, as well as the new Braille and speech synthesizer functionality via Bluetooth using JFW. I finally did get things to work; but, as with others, I really found it to be a process to go through. Although, truthfully, I guess I can attribute that to my lack of technical knowledge when it comes to all the configuring and com port stuff. And, too, I ran into that bug, or whatever, in Windows XP Service Pack Two that would automatically install the Microsoft drivers, rather than the Belkin ones. So, to solve the driver problem and get the complete functionality of the Belkin drivers, I took info from the article on the following webpage: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00006HYM3/002-4286904-9362424 More specifically, I used info from the review on this page entitled The dreaded "license.dat" error...,. Then, once I got the Belkin drivers working correctly, I also had to deal with the problem of the com ports, meaning JFW only showing four com ports for the Braille display, while the Belkin adapter would be installed to work on com 7 or 9 or something maybe even higher. To resolve that problem, I used info from this webpage: http://www.starrynight.com/support/support_trio/index.php?pf=kb&page=index_v2&id=201&c= This time, I used info from the article entitled My telescope control software doesn't list the COM port number BlueStar is connected to. And, grin, of course I know they're not talking about BN products here, but the info sure proved helpful to for me, for which I am much appreciative. Also, were I not considering getting a new computer in a couple of months, then maybe I wouldn't have been so easily persuaded to play around with all these drivers and com ports; and, of course, I make no guarantees how any of this will work on anyone else's system, just passing this on in case it does help someone. Then, finally, what with all my trying to get these devices to work, I finally figured out that I didn't have to do a hard reset every time I got that lower pitched sound when my PK or mPower wouldn't connect via ActiveSync to my PC. For, most often, either a reboot of the PC or a simple reset of the BN would put things to write again. ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
