I think there were two questions from yesterday about batteries.

Ann, did you try plugging the adaptor in and then unplugging it, after
your mPower has politely thanked you? That should work. We'll probably
not make it compulsory next time - it may suggest that you plug the
adaptor in rather than demanding it.

Why is the battery cycle more complicated on the mPower (or transplant)
than on the old BN? Mostly because we use a different chip to measure the
amount of charge in the battery. This little beastie watches how much
current goes into and out of the battery and tells the main processor how
much it thinks there is. We do not make this chip; it is made by Texas
Instruments and works in a subtly different way to the old one.

Why change? I hear you ask ... well, chips go out of date. And the new
chip would let us use Lithium batteries if we'd wanted, which is still
something we're keeping in mind - almost everyone else seems to be using
them these days, although from my laptop's battery life I wouldn't put
too much faith in them! We didn't do it in order to confuse BN users,
honest ...

regards,

Andy.
