Hi Nancy, dots 4-6 with the space bar is not the correct command. You need to press ENTER with dots 4-6 to increase the media volume to its maximum. If you need more volume once this is done, you can press ENTER with dot 4 to increase the master volume.
Yes, you do need headphones or external speakers connected, because the cable from the headphones or external speaker is what acts as the antenna.
