Hello all, I mentioned in a previous post I was at our state convention of our association of the blind this past weekend. While at the hotel, I tried to scan for a network. When I did, my M-power locked up! I had to reset it. I went to a meeting room the next day. I was able to go onto a network and see the SSID. I also received and sent my Email while in the meeting room. It was a different story once I got back to my hotel room. I kept getting a network with the SSID of XXXXXX. I noticed I couldn't get onto the internet when I saw the xxxxxx network come up. There were a number of high school students there as well so they may have prevented me from getting on the hotel's wireless network available for the public. I deleted my configuration a number of times and had the M-power connect me to existing configurations which created a non preferred network. I worked with it till I managed to get a connection which allowed me to send and receive Email. A computer Tech with a Vendor was saying the hotel had two networks. The xxx network was the private hotel network with high security on it which wouldn't allow me onto the internet. The other network was for the general public or if you please, hotel guests. This computer tech was saying he had problems getting on line with his laptop some of the time but he could distinguish the two networks with his laptop where I couldn't easily do so with my M-power. Once I knew what the SSID was, I wrote that into the configuration and received a more reliable connection. By that time, it was time to check out of the hotel. The computer tech thought the hotel should have masked its private network so we couldn't see it! So how does one deal with this kind of situation so one can be on a network more quickly? I've managed to see the difference between two networks in other hotels but not this one. Does anyone have any thoughts on this situation?
