Hi Dean, I understand that this is a Duxburry issue so really this is just an academic argument. I fully acknowledge that I am not a Braille expert. I have only the knowledge of Braille which thirty or so years of its use can bring, but, to my way of thinking, grimmediate really isn't correct. When we see the word "grab" we don't hear "grabout." When we see the word "zip" we don't hear the word "asip." "ag" stands for "again," but when we see "drag" or "rag" the words are pronounced correctly.
I may be wrong, but this is it seems a problem with the Duxburry software which doesn't seem like a correct translation. At best, this is a querk in the Braille code. It seems that the software recognizeswords where the expantion of a grade two contraction is not desired. It was not taught that Grimm might be a real last name, and thus it thinks that it is a word which doesn't exist in English so it thinks it should expand the contraction it finds there. I know, all academic, but interesting to note anyway. Every now and again these things crop up in a translated file. A work around is to put grimmediate (as a word), into the pronunciation dictionary and type grimm for the misspelling. My name is Terry and i have a quick question. I am reading a book that i downloaded from bookshare. The book is about the Fantastic four. One of the characters in the book is named Ben Grimm. His last name is spelled g r i m m. As you know the i m m in braille stands for immediate, so, the braille note is pronouncing the last name as grimmediate. This is disturbing to me. Any help to clear up this problem would be appreciated.
