Must be a good idea, since I had the same one, tried using one
space, and the BN wasn't having it. Didn't try two, but I doubt
if it would like that either. I then typed "subscribe" in the
subject line, and as you thought, the listserv ignored it, and
everything went through okay. If I should ever come up against a
listserve that's as stubborn as the BN, I'll have to revisit the
problem, but for now, I've skated around it. Thanks!

I'm not sure if these listserv programs really require that the
subject line be empty or if they just ignore it. There doesn't
seem to be a lot of standardization
between such things as mailman yahoo etc.
The worst that can happen is that the listserv will reject your
meessage request.
