Well, I have a BN classic at work, with Keysoft 3.something burned into rom, which I upgraded to 4.something, the highest it would go before they started charging. I got this BN in April of 2001, and it's never had a battery change. I can use it for about two days at work, and then it starts giving the battery low and battery critical messages very quickly, one after the other, and a couple times it has died. But it still generally lasts a couple days, even being so old. Of course I just use it to type on and save files. I don't do modem stuff. But perhaps this info might give you some kind of guide. I can tell it's an obviously old battery, but it still works, even after --- oh my gosh! It's been five years!

Rhonda,
And, do you know what tends to occur around this 18 months time frame, such as the battery only lasting around an hour or the life of the battery is tremendousley shorten or is there some type of warning message on the BrailleNote part stating "you need to send your unit in for a battery replacement," or something along that line.
Thanks very much.

Hi Keven:

18 months is about what is calculated before sending your unit in for a battery change. Many people make their battery last longer than that, but 18 months is recommended.

Dear List,
I was wondering how many times are you able to charge the mPower
until you will need to send it in to get the batter changed, and
in addition what will happend when you get to this certain
number, for example will the mPower not hhold a charge at all and
die once it is off the adapter? And, I was wondering the
samething for a Classic unit.
Thanks for the response.
Kevin
