Are you able to disable infrared on the phone? This may help. I
don't have infrared on my phone, so I don't have to deal with at
least that confusion. Just out of curiosity, what make and model of
phone do you have?

When I go to modem on the phone, it wants to connect via
infrared. That is something I don't understand.
