This is Jospeh. There is a technical differences. When you use R switch, the battery compartment will be turned off, and when it goes flat, it will restart the charge. When you choose F switch, the battery compartment will not be turned off, which means that you do not plug your charger unless the batery goes flat. I'm not of the technical details behind it, so I'll leave this to HumanWare engineers.
