Dear Keao,

All right! Now I know what your problem is. There is a solution to it.

The BrailleNote's .brf files don't show line endings and page endings when
they are imported into DBT as "Formatted Braille" files. In order to read
the files, your teacher must import the files as "Duxbury coded text." Now,
all of the data will be there. Your paragraph endings will show, but your
line endings won't appear. If your teacher has two hard returns in the
documents, then they will show as paragraphs, but if there is only one hard
return, it will appear as a space.

There are other ways to work around the problem.

1. You can emboss the document directly from your BN.

2. You could export your KeyWord braille document into WordPerfect 5.1.
Your teacher can then import the WP file into DBT and then translate it into
braille. Before translating the document, all the asterisks will have to be
removed. For some reason, Keysoft adds asterisks at the beginnings of lines
and they appear in DBT.

3. You could export your braille document as a Word file. DBT doesn't
support the Word documents produced by the BN because they are really rich
text format documents. Your teacher would need to open the document in
Word, save it as a Word document, then open it in DBT and translate it into
braille.

4. You could export your documents as ASCII text files, but you would have
the same problem you have with .brf files. To get around this, your teacher
would have to open the .txt file in Word, save it as a Word file then use
DBT to translate it into braille.

I hope you forward my message to your teacher. If he or she has any
questions, he/she may contact me directly for more information.

I have suggested for a long time the BN should have better support for DBT
and it should produce true Word documents and not rich text documents. It
would also be helpful if HumanWare would improve the WP 5.1 documents
created by Keysoft, but since WP 5.1 is a very old program and not popular
anymore, they probably won't do it. I hope HumanWare will implement these
suggestions I made for the .brf and Word files. Until then, people must use
the work-arounds I mentioned.

By the way, I have heard the competition's notetakers produce .brf files
which behave the same way as the .brf files produced by the BN.
