Incidentally, you really are always in directory mode, it's just that the names 
have been changed to protect the innocent.  [Grins]

Any time you are in a list of folders, you can press space with dots 5-6 to go 
down a level into the tree view, or space with dots 23 to go back up a level.  
You have to remember to space down into the list of folders, this doesn't work 
at the "name" prompt.  However, it doesn't matter whether you are in folder or 
directory mode, it works the same way in either case.  The commands on a QT are 
right and left arrow, respectively.

YOu can already toggle between folder and directory modes with 
control t on the qt.  I think it's space with t for the bt.
