Yes, the data plan is an additional $20 per month, above the standard charges for air time and making calls. However, when using the phone with the BN, it's not actually making a phone call, it's using the data service. My old cell phone that did not have bluetooth would make an actual call to Earthlink, just like the modem that is built in to the BN. It works differently now with the bluetooth connection. If you're not planning on making a lot of calls, (and I would think you wouldn't, but I don't want to assume, we all know what happens when people do that), You could probably get a nice cheap plan with a small amount of air time, and that could make it easier to afford the data plan. BTW, if anyone feels this to be off-topic, please say so, I only keep it on list because it relates to connecting to the internet with the BN.
