Hi to all,
Well, for some time now our BN wireless connections haven't been too safe,
without a WEP key being used. I finally found the software today and set
about to change things.
I should explain that as well as a Linksys hard wire router we addded an
additional Linksys Access Point when we wanted to go wireless with our BN's.
OK, all well and good. Some while back, I originally set up the mPower, not
understanding fully about the need for a WEP key, so we left that option at
"No". We then added the PK and of course they both worked out of the box.
Today we ran the Access Point software to change the WEP key setting to
"Yes" and opted to have a key encripted using the password I'd chosen
(perhaps a wrong choice here). Well, we got the key and it's 26 characters
in length. (Suffice it to say that I don't wish to remember it!) I think
somewhere along the line we also had to choose a level of incription and we
chose 128. (Perhaps this was also a mistake.)
Having run the software and obtained the key, first I made a small file
containing the key and then made changes to our original connection in the
PK, pasting the key from the clipboard. It didn't work immediately and I
needed to change the 802.1 X Authentification level to 2. After a reboot I
was in business!
When it came to the mPower, however, things didn't go the same way or as
well for us and we're still locked out at the time of writing! . . ..
First I again attempted to change an original connection setup. When I went
to paste the WEP key I found not only that I couldn't do this with the
mPower but that I was in a totally different menu. In fact, it was as
though I was looking up addresses and the Block Menu presented gave options
to manipulate records, as in the database "copy", "print" etc. After some
reboots etc., I deleted that connection and made a brand new one, entering
the key manually and I did so very carefully! I also noted that the
characters didn't speak as I wrote (as with the PK) and appear now only as
five stars (asterisks), whereas I can still read that WEP key on the PK. I
tried the Authentification Levels at all possible settings, reboots etc.,
but nothing has worked!
Now, what next! I've left my poor husband without his email connection,
though he can (thankfully) use the mobile phone in this "emergency" <SMILE>
Any suggestions/observations will be most welcome!
