One more question on this subject ... ok, for now, one more subject. grin. Do I need the software that came with the card? I'm only going top use the card for the mPower, but is there some reason I need to install this software onto the PC? Anything about the mPower and the PC? I never sync them together, so I wouldn't think there would be a reason. thanks. To my delighted surprise, my earthlink account info was still in my unit when I got my transplant back from HW. If it were me, I'd cary along my own network cable though just in case there isn't one available. I've seen this go both ways. Also, I notice you use earthlink. If you are trying to send email via your earthlink, but are outside of the earthlink domain which you almost certainly will be when calling from a hotel network, you will have to be sure to set authentication to yes in your directory of services and also use the correct smtp authentication server. I no longer have an earthlink account so am doing this from memory, but I believe the smtp server you need is smtpauth.earthlink.net but you can check this out with earthlink. You will definitely need to set authentication to yes. Actually, when I still had earthlink I set my MPower up to use the authentication server even when I was going through the earthlink network and it worked just fine. I never had to change anything that way. Don On Tue, 2 May 2006 17:09:06 -0700, Sherry Gomes wrote: Thanks, Don. That is very helpful. It will be much nicer than dealing with dial up in a hotel from now on. Since you also use a PC, and I'm primarily a PC user for things like email and internet, are there any quirks or little things that it's important to know about using the BN products this way? I have an mPower running keysoft 7. Of course, I understand it doesn't have the processor speed or memory of my new PC. I meant more specific issues to using high speed internet with the mPower. last time I did email on the BN was last summer, and you know how slow dial up was on the BN classic. I'm looking forward to taking the mPower for a test drive on a trip to enjoy the increased speed and reliability for email. They have them at radio shack among other places. I have one here wh is about 6 feet long, and another which is 15 or 20 feet long running to a computer obviously further away. Also, I have one here which is about a foot long and really convenient for packing and using in a hotel room with a network connection jack. So, you have a lot of different lengths to choose from, and having an extra one around is definitely worth the few dollars. I know exactly what cable your talking about, but it's been a long day, and I couldn't think of the word, network cable. LOL. Your dsl modem probably connects to the network card of your pc via such a cable. They look very much like the telephone jacks, but they are not. For a dsl modem, you can simply use a network cable connected to the dsl modem at one end and the plug on the ethernet card at the other. There is a bit more to getting your ethernet card to work with your dsl modem, but this should answer the cabling question. Do check out the connectivity chapter in the MPower manual for setting up the configuration on the MPower. If you need another network cable, you can get them from computer stores and even radio shack. I decided to break down and buy an ethernet card for my mPower. I called human ware to get mine, because I didn't want to look around for one on the internet. So, I got the card today, and I am slightly baffled. Here are questions. 1. I knew it would have some sort of adaptor for connecting to a phone line, but I'm confused. It has the short cord with a phone type jack on the end. What is supposed to plug into it? I thought it would have an end like a phone/modem cable, and would be plugged into a phone jack, like a modem does. 2. I'd like to test it at home. How do I connect it to my current DSL modem or the phone jack or whatever. Yes, I'm sure some of this is in the manual, but I'm also sure someone here can give briefer more to the point directions. 3. When I do stay in hotels on my travels, usually the hotels with high speed internet, you plug a phone/modem cable into an extra jack on the room phone. How do you accomplish this with the ethernet card? 4. What is the CD that came with it? And if it is software, do I need it, since I won't be using this ethernet card on my PC which already has an ethernet card? again, since I know the discussion of ethernet cards has been discussed often on this list, please feel free to write me privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks.
