Hi Terry:
From the Main Menu, press O chord for Options. Press B. Press
Enter. You should see your settings. If it says you are in
computer Braille, press the letter B so that you will be in Grade
Two.

Subject: RE: [Braillenote] file name confusion
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying about
computer braille although I still don't know much of it.
However, as
to the questions, the bn doesn't display any grade 2 symbols in
the
file names and it uses dots 4 and 6 for a period. When I type
the
file name all in grade 1 it doesn't matter wheather I use the 4
and 6
for the period or the traditional 2 5 and 6 dot period. Thanks
for
trying to help me figure this out.

Actually, it is in a code known as computer braille. If you
don't know that
computer braille is: the computer braille is used whre
computing-related
information should be embossed. Many devices these days
(BrailleNote, PAC
Mate, etc.) use this code to display some contents on the screen,
such as
file names, manu names, etc.
When you are viewing file names, you should see a funny-looking
symbol. This
should be read dots 4-6, but, in reality, it is a point to
differtiate
between file name and its associated file extension. That is why
it seems
that file names are in grade 1.
Secondly, when you try to open the file, make sure that you use
the correct
characters. I'll give you two examples:
1. You have a file named docs. You have capitalized all four
letters e.g.
DOCS. When you try to open a file, be sure that you write all
uppercase
letters (in this example, you should capitalize all four
letters.).
2. You have a file named documents, but you used contraction
dots 5-6
followed by t. It is recommended that you use grade 1 braille to
open a
file. This will ensure that BrailleNote wwon't be confused
between a
punctuation (in this case, a semicolon) or a contraction (in this
case,
ment.).
I hope this informaiton may help you.
P.S. If you want to know more about file extensions, search the
BrailleNote
List archives on November or December archives (or October.).

Subject: [Braillenote] file name confusion
Hello all,
I just got a braille note classic three days ago and I have
a couple of
questions that I hope you all can answer. First, When I try to
open a file
in the word processor it prompts me for a file name. No matter
what I type,
even when I'm absolutely sure that the file is there, it says the
document
does not exist, do you want to create it? Second, why are all
the file
names that the braille note lists always in grade one braille?
Please
excuse my lack of knowledge and experience with the bn. Thanks.
Terry Sanders
