Liz,

So the T-Mobile HotSpot is a service that you have to pay for? What is the rate per day and the rate per month? I really think that does defeat the purpose of making a HotSpot, if you have to pay for the service, I was thinking that a HotSpot meant you are able to get in and get out, all without having to pay and wouldn't be so hastlesome. I just thought you are able to swing in, get what you needed and move on.

Hi Kevin and listers,

Today, I went to a Starbucks location in Fort worth where I successfully connected to the TMobie wireless system.

Before I went to Starbucks, I created a Tmobile wireless acount so that I wouldn't have to do that while connected at Starbucks.

I found the TMobile site by first going to the Starbucks home page and doing a search for wireless Internet.

I definitely needed the headphones as the music was louder than I expected.

There is a big difference from talking to friends to trying to listen to a synthesizer and also read along in Braille.

All in all, I think the wireless access is pretty neat.

From what I understand, there may be some drawbacks to free hotspots in
terms of not allowing people to check their e-mail, etc.

Subject: [Braillenote] HotSpots

Dear Listers,

I was wondering if anyone has tried using their BrailleNote to connect to a HotSpot, such as: Starbuck's, malls, or any other place that offers WiFi access.

I recently tried this at Starbuck's, I was able to find, connect to the internet; the part where I found some problems was when I tried opening the web browser, when I tried to open the web browser, the page that appeared was a page that required a user name and password. And, when I read further down the page, there was information about pricing, I thought the purpose of HotSpots was to be able to access the internet, get in and out, all without paying. Later that same day, I still had the determination to get on to the internet, for the sake of doing so, I went to the movies, I was a bit early, so I tried accessing their internet, I found, connected, but when I tried opening the browser, I got the message "cannot find server."

Has anyone had this experience when trying to access a HotSpot, if so, can you please fill me in on your work-around I didn't think trying to access a HotSpot could be so complicated.
Thanks for the information you are able to provide regarding this topic.
Kevin
