Liz,
There are two ways of recalibrating the battery. One can be called forced 
recalibration , which is the one that is done by going to options,  support 
information mode, then the letter r. The other one is the one that Walter 
described, which is running your battery completely flat, until it turns off 
on you. At this point you will plug the ac adapter into the unit and allow 
it to charge for a few hours, I would recommend three hours, Walter 
recommends eight hours. Both of these methods accomplish the same task, 
which is recalibration, it is your choice, do you want to run it flat, or 
have the unit run itself flat?
