Mike and list,
I vote for bar code scanning software to be supported by BrailleNote. We
have already spent money for the BrailleNote and the I D Mate is about $1600
more. It is a great product I have one for work and don't want to spend
money to buy another one for home. It would be a great add on for the
BrailleNote.

Maybe this is old news, but I just happened to visit the Freedom
Scientific
web site today. I noticed they have a product which works with the
Pakcmate
which allows the user to scan the UPC codes on common items such as over
the
counter medications, food packages, CD's and DVD's, and personal hygiene
items. Not only will their system tell you what it is and who makes it,
but
it will give you dosing instructions for over the counter medications,
and
it will tell you who is in the particular DVD you are holding.
Pretty neat ha?
I wonder when HumanWare will get around to offering up a solution to the
common everyday problem of knowing whether it's peas or pineapple, or
how
much cough medicine to take.
